The results of this investigation indicate that the two materials evaluated (AISI 4140 steel and 2-1/4 Cr-l Mo steel) have comparable resistance to SSC in the high pressure, sour environment. In addition, at 75 F the SSC behavior of both materials is comparable to that observed in NACE solution exposure tests previously conducted. It was also observed that samples exposed to the H2S/CO2/brine environment at 300 F in the stressed condition before testing at 75 F, showed a substantial reduction in their tendency for SSC than samples exposed directly in this environment at 75 F.
