Elastomer Seals
One of the problems with the use of elastomers and other polymeric materials
is the question of life prediction. Typically, these materials are affected
by in-service thermal and chemical degradation. Laboratory test
methodologies have been developed which can assist in the selection of
polymeric materials. They include exposure to simulated service
environments as a function of temperature. Such data can be the basis of
design and initial materials selection as well as post failure analysis to
select new materials with improved performance.
