Expert Systems
Expert systems offer many advantages in terms of improved accuracy and
consistency for many aspects of engineering decision making. Examples of
successful application of expert system technology have included materials
selection, troubleshooting, corrosion engineering and prioritization of
inspection. Expert systems are a particularly cost effective tool to
assist in decentralization of decision making, to relieve the time
constraints of technical experts and to provide training for novice
engineering and operations personnel.
