In-Plant Corrosion Testing
In-plant corrosion testing is a special form of field testing in which
corrosion tests are conducted in an active, operating plant environment.
The special nature of these tests is commonly related to the dynamic nature
of the service environment under plant conditions. It does not always lend
itself to laboratory simulation. Examples of in-plant tests are found in
chemical processing, petroleum refining, food processing and electric power
generation. These tests typically utilize many of the techniques used for
corrosion monitoring such as coupons, probes and electrochemical methods
(See Corrosion Monitoring). Under plant conditions, corrosion tests can be
conducted in the main process flow, in side loops or remote vessels using a
variety of fixtures and access fittings.
