Elastomer Material Evaluation in High Pressure Gaseous Environment
Samples of elastomeric materials were provided for evaluationof performance in high pressure gas environments containing CO2,CH4 and N2. Of particular concern are theeffects of rapid decompression from test pressure andenvironmental degradation of the materials. The series of testsconducted in this investigation was developed to generateinformation that will aid in the selection of elastomericmaterials for wellhead service where high pressures, temperaturesand CO2 concentrations are present.
Evaluation of Elastomers in Methane & CO2 Environments
Samples of elastromeric materials were provided andevaluated to assess performance in a high pressure gas environment containing CO2 and CH4. The study presented herein was conducted as an extension to work, described earlier. All test methods employed presently are similar to those described in depth in the previous report and will be only briefly covered herein.
Technical/Market Experience Survey on FRP pipe for Oil & Gas Service
A review of technical experience and market situation has been developed for fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) tubular products for application in the oil and gas industry. Data was obtained from a literature search as well as from producer and user contact. The results of this review are presented herein. They show that FRP pipe and tubing offer both engineering and economic advantages over conventional steels. However, in some cases, restrictions and modifications of normal operating procedures are necessary. Most sources indicate that sales of FRP should continue to increase as users become more familiar with FRP materials and as long as oil prices stay above $20 / BBL. FRP application as downhole tubing presents the most difficult challenge due to high pressures and temperatures that are often encountered.
