Sets of CLIMAT coupons were placed in a line perpendicular to Hwy 401 within the city limits during three months of the winter of 1999. The coupons were placed on fence posts approximately 2 m from the ground and 18 m apart. The site was chosen for its flatness and absence of immediate obstacles.
The following figure shows that the corrosivity of the aerosol transported salts can be felt at a considerable distance from the highway.
