By William L. Mathay, presented at Air Pollution Seminar, Buffalo, NY, U.S.A., Oct 1987. Performance of nickel-containing stainless steels and higher nickel alloys in the flue gas desulphurization systems of 39 operating power units is reviewed and discussed. Corrosion problems that have been encountered, and the solutions to them, are presented. Results indicate that the use of alloys in the more aggressive environments of various FGD systems is finding increased favor.
