10036 A FUNDAMENTAL STUDY OF CORROSION RESISTANT ZINC-NICKEL ELECTROPLATING (54 pages)
Corrosion,Electroplating and electroforming
By Dr. Kei Higashi, Yasunori Hayashi, Hisaaki Fukushima, Tetsuya Akiyama and Hideki Hagi, supported by a grant from the Nickel Development Institute, Jan 1990. Mechanical and chemical properties of metals are considerably improved by alloying. Electrodeposition of alloys has aroused intense interest as a new technique that has great industrial possibilities for producing coatings of higher quality in the field of surface finishing. From the early 1980s the number of reports on nickel-zinc alloys began to increase, the trend mainly resulting from research by steel manufacturers to develop highly corrosion-resistant alloy-plated steel sheet for automotive body panels. As a comprehensive knowledge of nickel-zinc alloy plating is required to promote this highly corrosion-resistant alloy in other fields as well as in the automotive industry, the authors conducted a series of studies and this reports their extensive findings.
