Abstract

Based on the German standard cast duplex stainless steel 1.4517, similar to CD4MCu, a new cast superduplex stainless steel with an increased nitrogen content of up to 0.4 wt.% was developed. A higher nitrogen solubility was realized by increasing the manganese content to 6 wt.%. As a consequence of this, a higher strength and pitting resistance as well as higher hydro-abrasion and cavitation resistance was realized.

The paper presents results of research on the development of a highly wear-resistant as well as corrosion-resistant superduplex stainless steel. Details to the following points will be presented: chemical composition, microstructure, mechanical properties, wear resistance against hydro-abrasion and cavitation as well as pitting corrosion resistance.
