Abstract:

Welds made by automatic TIG welding of superduplex stainless steel UNS S 32760 with one duplex and two austenitic steels and two Ni-base alloy filler wires were investigated. The welds made with the Ni-base fillers showed the best corrosion resistance, the weld with the duplex filler revealed excellent impact toughness. One of the austenitic steel filler metals appeared to be unapplicable due to failure in bending tests and poor corrosion resistance, the second austenitic steel filler with high nitrogen content resulted in welds which showed the highest strength and a good compromise in respect to impact toughness and corrosion resistance.
