Abstract

Duplex and superduplex stainless steels have been used extensively in the construction of onshore and offshore pipelines for the oil & gas industry. A significant quantity in excess of 65,000 tonnes of these grades of stainless steel have been utilized in the manufacture of electric fusion welded (EFW) corrosion-resistant alloy line pipe. This paper gives an overview of the utilization of duplex and superduplex EFW corrosion resistant alloy line pipe. Detailed within the paper is a brief summary of the manufacturing process technology.

Presented in the paper is a summary of the testing undertaken and results obtained on the EFW duplex and superduplex stainless steel line pipe for specific onshore and offshore field developments. The test results presented include mechanical properties, fracture toughness properties, corrosion resistance, hydrogen embrittlement test results and reeling trials.

The paper gives a brief outline of the method of manufacture for induction bends and includes the results from manufacturing qualification tests.
