Abstract

Martensitic stainless line pipes have been successfully developed. However, for them to be commercially viable there needs to be development in girth welding methods. Non-arc welding methods such as laser welding and Homopolar pulse welding (HPW) are promising and were studied. Both of these processes provide an over-matched joint with good low temperature toughness. PWHT slightly improves the performance. No problems related with the weld line of HPW occurred in terms of low cycle fatigue and SSC. Non-arc welding methods such as laser welding and HPW are proven to realize a high performance girth weld joint with high productivity.
