ABSTRACT

In order to qualify 316 LN modified stainless steel for superfluid Helium cryogenic application in the frame of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) development in the CERN – Genova, low temperature material and weldments evaluation has been carried out.

The evaluation program hereafter presented includes :

  1. Description of the project requirements and objectives .
  2. Plate material characteristics – Austenite stability.
  3. Welding test.
  4. Fracture safety assessment.

Conclusion
